We provide free and at-cost junk removal, moving, and furniture delivery to low-income seniors, single mothers, and neighbors getting a second start in life.
Our Story
It started with a broken heart.
When I started this business, I had one simple aim: to create Philadelphia's first truly eco-friendly junk removal company. As I got going, I ran into one big problem. I kept coming across what I call "living quality goods," items nice enough for someone to use and cherish, but not something I could keep around to sell. I tried giving them away on Facebook Marketplace, donating them to Goodwill with mixed results, and sometimes, unfortunately, sending them to the landfill. It broke my heart every time I saw a desk, a chair, or a bag of kitchen goods go into a landfill when it could have served someone.
Then something miraculous happened. As I posted items on Facebook Marketplace, especially full apartment setups, I started finding the people who really needed them: single mothers and elderly people on fixed incomes who needed things for a new home, or needed help with junk removal but couldn't afford it. So I ate the cost, delivered it, and got the job done.
That's how the Foundation was born.
How it's funded
Two ways we keep it going.
Our paid work pays for it
The prices our clients pay for junk removal and moving allow us to offer free or at-cost service to people who can't afford it.
The Unfunkery pays for it
All proceeds from our thrift store go to the Foundation.
What We Do

Second chances
Road to Recovery is our newest effort, still in its early days, to train people in sober recovery and people coming home from prison, and give them work or the tools to start their own business. Know someone who fits? Have them reach out.
Rescuing living quality goods
We keep usable items out of the landfill and get them into the hands of the people who need them most.

Founded by Dr. Barbara Schindler at Drexel University College of Medicine, Caring Together provides treatment and support for women and families affected by substance use.
Northwest Philadelphia
Urban Resources Development Corporation (URDC)
Based in Northwest Philadelphia, URDC provides free and low-cost home repairs and renovations for low-income homeowners, especially seniors.
