About Us

JUNK REMOVERS THAT CARE

Unfunk Your Stuff started as an eco-friendly junk removal company. It became something bigger: a way to love people, serve God, and serve Philadelphia, one job at a time.

How it started

Unfunk Your Stuff began with one truck and one goal: to build Philadelphia's first truly eco-friendly junk removal company. Every item deserved a second look before it went to a landfill.

Then the work started changing us. We kept finding "living quality goods," things too good to throw away, and we kept meeting people who needed exactly those things. Seniors on fixed incomes. Single mothers setting up a new apartment. Neighbors who needed help but couldn't afford it. So we started giving it away, delivering it, and doing the job anyway.

That's when the question changed. It stopped being "How do we haul junk responsibly?" and became "How can we use this business to love other people, serve God, and serve our community?" Everything we do now comes back to that question.

My story

Four and a half years ago, I was living out of my car. I had no direction in life, and I was so depressed I wasn't sure I would make it to another day. I had done things I was not proud of, and I didn't know where to go from there.

Over the past four years, I've made some big mistakes. But I've also received something I did not and could not earn: grace. I received it from the people closest to me, and I received it from God.

As someone who has caused real harm to other people, I've made it my mission to love and serve others the way I have been loved and served. That is the core of this company. It's why we do eco-friendly junk removal. It's why we hold our movers to such a high standard of training. It's why we're building Road to Recovery. And it's why we treat every home, every item, and every person we meet with care.

What we stand for

Love people

Every client, every crew member, and every neighbor we serve gets our best, whether they're paying full price or nothing at all.

Serve our community

Our profits fund free and at-cost moving, junk removal, and furniture delivery for seniors, single mothers, and families in need across Greater Philadelphia.

Care for creation

Every item is hand-sorted for donation, resale, and recycling. The landfill is the last resort.

Road to Recovery

Road to Recovery is a training program for people who are committed to a sober recovery program, and for people recently released from prison who have shown real evidence that they're ready to start a new life.

We want to be honest: this program isn't fully up and running yet. We've been working toward it for the past year, and we're just now getting our feet wet. But we're committed to it, and we're actively looking for the right people to be part of it.

The goal is hands-on training in moving, hauling, sorting, and running a job. From there, people would have the opportunity to join our crew, or to learn what it takes to start their own company. A second chance means more than a paycheck. It means a path forward.

Is this you, or someone you know? If you're in recovery or recently home and ready for a fresh start, we want to hear from you. Apply or reach out at (215) 586-3510 or aaron@unfunkyourstuff.net.

Radical support for our employees

We believe the people who build this company should share in it. That's why we offer:

  • —0% interest loans for long-term employees to buy trucks and equipment, so they can grow into partners in the business
  • —The opportunity to buy into the company, so long-term crew members share in the profits instead of just earning a wage
  • —A clear path to advance, from Basic Mover to Journeyman to Master Mover, rated by real jobs completed

How we staff a job

Every crew is rated the same way, by jobs completed. Master Movers have 50 or more moves behind them. Journeymen have 20 or more. Basic Movers have completed 10 or more jobs and our full training. You always know who's on your job before they arrive.

The Unfunkery and the Foundation

The best of what we recover goes to The Unfunkery, our thrift store and recycled resource center. Every dollar it earns funds the Unfunk Your Stuff Foundation, which provides free and at-cost service to the people who need it most.

I was given grace I didn't earn. Every job we do is a chance to pass it on.
